About Us

Welcome to the Family

Since 2002, we've been rooted in family values, starting our care agency from our home in Great Asby near Appleby. Led by the Tarney family, our journey began when our mother, Erica, who transitioned from a home carer to establishing her own private care agency in Appleby after completing her Health & Social Care degree. Our dedication to personalised and compassionate care, especially in rural locations, drives everything we do.

Heather Tarney (Erica's daughter) now leads our ongoing efforts to enhance and refine our care services and actively seeks partnerships with local businesses to continually find ways to improve our in-home care services to clients and their families. Dan Tarney ensures seamless logistics and the availability of essential protective equipment and offers a friendly voice for discussions on care costs and invoices.

Richard Tarney supports the finance team, managing payroll processes and working alongside one of our younger clients, Willliam, who manages our payroll system.  We encouraged William to join our team, and since 2007, he's been a highly regarded member of our Penrith care agency, finance team.

Despite their directorial roles, each Tarney family member remains deeply involved, working alongside our management team on a daily basis to ensure the highest quality of in-home care in Cumbria.

We’re still the only private care agency available in many rural areas of Cumbria. Over time the demand for our service in other areas of Cumbria grew and we now provide private home care services in Penrith, Keswick, and Carlisle.

Our Experienced Registered Manager

Our exceptional manager, Colette Russell, leads our office and care teams throughout Cumbria, Colette brings a wealth of expertise to her role. With a degree in Health and Social Care and a Level 5 qualification in Care Management, she is highly qualified to ensure the highest standards of care. Colette's journey in home care began in 2009, starting as a dedicated home carer and progressing through roles such as coordinator, deputy manager, and eventually registered manager for another care agency. In 2015, she joined our team as a deputy manager and has since taken the helm as our Registered Manager.

Colette's passion for care stems from personal experience, having cared for her father who battled mixed dementia and MS, requiring home care himself. Her dedication extends beyond our organisation as she hosts the Skills for Care network in Eden and proactively collaborates with other partners across Cumbria. With Colette at the helm, our team is driven by compassion, expertise, and a commitment to delivering exceptional care to our community.

Helping people access services in rural communities

At Eden Country Care, we are actively involved in facilitating and chairing meetings as part of the IMPACT Networks initiative. The Networks are all focused on improving practice and outcomes in adult social care at the grassroots level. The overarching aims of these networks are to address common yet complex challenges and to develop practical solutions that can be scaled up to inspire change nationwide. Eden Country Care chairs these meetings in Cumbria and looks specifically at the issues of access to healthcare in rurally isolated communities.

The learning from these local networks is shared with other groups working on similar issues to develop actionable plans to address the healthcare access problem in rural areas. As part of our commitment to enhancing the well-being of our community, we are proud to be actively involved in this collaborative effort towards positive change in Cumbria's health and social care sector.

Providing vital digital community services

At Eden Country Care, we are deeply committed to keeping our community connected and informed. As administrators of the Cumbrian Eye Facebook groups, including those spanning small villages and larger towns, we provide a dynamic platform for over 65,000 members and growing at a rate of 3,500 per month. Upholding a Safe Space Charter for older people and individuals with disabilities, our dedicated administrators ensure that all members feel supported and respected within these digital communities.

Additionally, we offer a comprehensive online event calendar on our Cumbrian Eye website, where our members' Facebook posts are published as events.  This invaluable resource allows us to stay informed of community activities and events which may be beneficial to our clients. By leveraging both our Facebook groups and event calendar, we empower our community members to discover opportunities and resources that enhance their well-being and enrich their lives.
