Professional Conduct & Social Media

What to Do Next

Use this guidance if you’re unsure whether something is appropriate to post, share, or comment on.

Before posting, ask yourself

  • Could someone recognise the person or situation?

  • Am I sharing something linked to my work role?

  • Would I be comfortable if this was seen by the client, family, or employer?

If the answer to any of these is “no”, don’t post.

What to do

  1. Keep work and personal life separate online

  2. Never post about clients or situations, even anonymously

  3. Do not share photos taken during work visits

  4. Check privacy settings, but don’t rely on them

  5. Follow the social media policy at all times

What not to do

  • Don’t vent about work online

  • Don’t respond to comments about clients

  • Don’t share workplace issues or frustrations

  • Don’t accept friend requests from clients or families

When to report

Report to the office if:

  • You realise something you posted may be inappropriate

  • A client or family member contacts you online

  • You’re unsure whether online contact is acceptable

Remember

  • Once something is posted, it can’t be taken back

  • Privacy settings don’t guarantee privacy

  • Professional conduct applies online as well as in person
